Have you ever started humming a song and thought where in the world did I hear that song today to be humming it? Well chances are you passed by someone humming it as well or it was playing in a store while shopping. We can hear things and not even be aware of it at the time.

“Pay attention to what you hear. - MARK 4:24

This can be harder than you think because you do not always hear what you're hearing. Think of a dog whistle we know it’s making a sound but we can't hear it. This is where we have to be careful in life because there are a lot of sounds being made and they are getting into our consciousness, we are hearing these things and hearing these sounds and not noticing it. All the stuff the news is saying, the economy is gonna crash, that we need to be divided, that we need to be stirred up all the time. All the people at work complaining about everything happening, the job is bad, the boss is bad, we are bad, talking about us behind our backs. There is a cycle of all these things. Do they sound familiar to you? But we don't always hear it and pick up on it.

I used to listen to all different types of music but one day my husband and I were driving and all of a sudden a song we had listened to for years was on and we finally “heard” the lyrics. We turned it off and said to each other we can't sing this song! Why? Because we don't want what was being said in that song. We have to be so careful with what we hear.

Think about this statement. “What we hear determines what we say, what we say determines what we see, and what we see determines where we move.”

You can never say what you don't hear.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. - Romans 10:17

So if faith comes by hearing, the ear is a gate to our soul and spirit. Faith is not the only thing that comes by hearing, doubt comes by hearing, depression comes by hearing, all of these different things come by hearing. So it is not just the fact that we are hearing but what are we hearing. Whether it is the conscious things we hear or the unconscious things that are sneaking into our eye gate and ear gate. Who have you been listening to? Who you hear the most is who you believe the most. Sometimes we hear all these things that we can't see. We hear this broken record from a coach, from a teacher, from when we messed up, from insecurities, from when things went bad, from our spouse, from anybody and they speak these negative things into our life. It could even be what they didn't say it like that,  its just what we heard and they say I didn't even mean it like that, but the filter we have from our pasts made us hear it a certain way, then we start playing it like a broken record over and over in our minds.

If faith comes by hearing then we need to be hearing faith. There are many voices, there's the voice of God, the voice of jealousy, the voice of anger, the voice of resentment, the voice of your past, the voice of your momma, the voice of somebody got it and I didnt, there's the voice of ambition, and there's the voice of the enemy. And here's the thing about the enemy, the enemy will try to sound as much like God as he can! He will try to derail you.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. - Genesis 3:1,3-7

Do you see what happened Eve was listening to a voice she should not have been listening to, then started talking to someone she should have never talked to, which then caused her to see something she should have never seen. If they would have been putting more Word in them, instead of listening to that crafty sneaky enemy, they would have known and said, no your mistaken because God wanted me to be like Him so much He created me in His image, He created me to be like Him, I actually look like Him. But that's not what Eve came back with. When Eve looked at the tree and saw it was good in verse 6, after she heard and listened she ate and then moved Adam to eat too and then in verse 7 they saw what they should have never seen and made coverings. Y'all before this we all looked like Victoria Secret models, this is where cellulite was created! It was all good until Eve heard.

What are we listening to? Why are we listening to what we are listening to? Because what we hear is making us move. What moves in our lives have we been making that we don't like, now we can think about what we have been hearing and start making the changes in those areas. If you want to make a change the Word will work, if you work the Word.

Here are four things we can do to make a difference in our lives.

Number one:  How do we hear better? We hear better things. That means if something helps you, you listen to it again like a podcast, audible book, or when you need life spoken back into you watch a tv sermon from your favorite pastor, uplifting music. (Just make sure who you are listening to isn't just giving you their opinions and they are actually speaking scriptures from the Bible.) And you need a community of people who do speak biblical truth over you, find a connect group at your church, there are so many good people willing to help you, be your friend, and encourage you. This is how you change your life. Romans 12:2 tells us do not be conformed to this world. If we want what the world has we do what the world does. The world has addictions, the world has divorce, the world has bankruptcy, the world has shootings in schools. Who does not want that!? Say me! I know I don't want that! But if we listen to what the world listens to, we get what the worlds got. Do not be conformed of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. How do you renew your mind the Bible says take heed what you hear. Ephesians 4:23 it says to be renewed in the spirit of your mind.

Number two: Hear it over and over again. Repetition, the more something gets repeated the more likely we are to remember it. Luke 6:45 out of the abundance of the heart the mouth will speak. Mark 11:23 whoever says unto this mountain be thou removed and does not doubt in his heart but believes what he says shall come to pass. You have to say it to see it.

Number three: Be intentional. Be intentional to create space to listen to God. What does that look like? Buy a pack of post-it notes and write read my Bible and stick it to your nightstand, so that way you are reminded when you go to bed and reminded when you get up. Write the word podcast and stick it to your bathroom mirror, so that way your reminded to turn one on, brush your teeth with Joyce Meyer, stick another podcast note in your car, so every time you get in there you can ride to work or ride to the store with your mentor.

Number four: Say what you are hearing God say about you. We are not going to get anything until we say it and we can't say what the enemy says, we have to say what God says. Out of the abundance of the heart, we have to put a lot of God in us to get a lot of God out of us. To get bold enough to talk to that mountain we have to hear that we can move that mountain.
